Mae Moey – แม่ เหมย

Name meaning: Moey has several meanings including ‘dew’
Arrival date: December 2022
Arrival age: 30
Rescue location: Myanmar-Thai border, Huay Yang district

History: Mae Moey was rescued at very short notice after she was caught being smuggled across the border. The man transporting her is known to have transported timber and elephants in the past, so it is likely Mae Moey spent her life as a logging elephant.

For the first time in history, we were asked to help the authorities with the care of a confiscated elephant. Mae Moey will hopefully live out the rest of her days at WFFT.

Characteristics: Mae Moey is short, has large brown eyes and moves very quickly. Her favourite pastimes include sand baths, eating jackfruit and chasing after vehicles as they drive past.

Her new neighbours are curious about her and often stop by to say hello.
