2017 marks Pai Lin’s 10th year since she was freed from her abusive past. Pai Lin is oldest elephant at WFFT’s Elephant Refuge and has been with longer than any other elephant. Pai Lin begged on the streets for many years, prior to that she was used as a tourist taxi elephant in the trekking industry. She carried a heavy ‘seat’ with possibly up to six tourists in it (this maltreatment is common in the tourist industry), she had several pressure sores and her spine is visibly deformed. Here’s to another 10 years of freedom for this very special old lady.
